FAQ

  • What makes Ravel Realms different?

For my fiber art lovers, I imagine each hand-dyed skein of yarn as a quest waiting to be raveled into something great. That's where my works of art come to fruition. Once colors are chosen, I envision it having a world. As an artist, I like to challenge myself, so I paint a scene. Then, I thoughtfully select the colors that dominate the painting and arrange them on my yarn.

  • Do you have any patterns?

Not yet! Those will come with time since we are a newly formed business. I’m looking for people willing to collaborate with me on sharing their patterns, especially those inspired by sci-fi and fantasy. In the meantime, please check out Ravelry and Craftsy.

Feel free to reach out to us at SpeakingStone@RavelRealms.com.

  • How much yarn should I purchase for a project?

The amount of yarn you’ll need can indeed vary greatly depending on the project and the weight of the yarn. If your chosen pattern specifies a different yarn weight than what you’re using, this will also affect the quantity required.

If you’re uncertain, a good starting point is to select a pattern and examine its yarn weight requirements. This will give you an idea of how much yarn you’ll need for that particular design. From there, you can estimate the number of skeins to purchase. Remember, it’s always better to have a little extra than to run out mid-project. Happy crafting!

  • Will your yarns bleed?

We strive to ensure that our hand-dyed yarns retain their color as much as possible. However, due to the artisanal nature of the process, some colors, particularly vibrant ones like hot pinks, reds, and certain blues, may bleed slightly. We recommend conducting a swatch test before integrating different colors into your project, particularly when using high-contrast combinations.

In the event you notice color seepage, here’s a simple remedy: Submerge the yarn in a pot filled with water, add a few splashes of vinegar, and gently heat on the stove until warm. Let the pot cool, during which the excess dye should be absorbed back into the wool. Finally, wash the yarn with a gentle soap to fully remove any residual dye. This process will help ensure your hand-dyed yarn maintains its beautiful hues.

  • Do you sell to other countries?

We are a very small company, but as we grow, we are looking to expand to other countries in the nearby future.

  • How do I care for this yarn?

While our Superwash wool is indeed machine-washable, we strongly recommend handwashing and air-drying flat to preserve the longevity and beauty of your item. If you choose to machine wash, please do so with cool water, avoid bleaching, and refrain from wringing. You may tumble dry, but remember to iron cool (Max 110°C). This gentle care will ensure your handcrafted piece retains its charm and durability for years to come.

  • Why does my skein look different than the image online?

At our studio, we pour our hearts into capturing the true essence of our yarn through photography. However, please bear in mind that monitor displays can differ, meaning the colors you see may not perfectly match what we see on our screens. Each image showcases an average skein, carefully selected from a specific dye lot.

Our hand-dyed yarn is a testament to the art of dyeing, where each batch tells its own unique story. Variations in hue, saturation, and shade are part of this narrative, adding to the yarn’s individual charm. Therefore, we kindly ask for your understanding that the yarn you receive may show slight differences from the photos, a delightful testament to its handcrafted nature.

  • Can you customize dyed yarn or artwork?

Yes and no. While the enchanting world of customization is a thrilling one, at this time, I am not able to accept commissions. However, this does not mean that your creative ideas should remain silent!

I wholeheartedly invite you to share your visions of what you’d like to see in our yarn or art. Your suggestions could be the inspiration for our next masterpiece.
